History

1921  Shozaburo Shimano establishes Shimano Iron Works in Sakai, Osaka, Japan

1936  New 25,000 square metre plant built and operations shifted to Oimatsu-cho, Sakai, the present location.

1951  Name changed to Shimano Industrial Co. Ltd. New forging and hardening procedures drive increased sales.

1970  Fishing tackle division launched; rod, reel and cooler production commences. First range of reels is the DUX series.

1971  50th anniversary. Shimano Adachi Co. Ltd. established, specializing in fishing rod manufacture.
 
1972  Shimano Europe (as being Shimano Europa GmbH.) is established in Dusseldorf, West-Germany

1974  Shimano exhibits tackle in Europe for the first time.

1977  Shimano uses Kevlar in rod manufacturing for the first time.

1980   Prototype Aero reel sets new Japanese casting record. First Aero reels launched. 

1991   70th anniversary: the corporate name is changed from Shimano Industrial Works to SHIMANO INC.

1995   Shimano Europe moves to The Netherlands; Nunspeet becomes the new headquarters of Shimano Europe

1997  G.Loomis Inc. Joins Team Shimano

2008  Innovative Textiles Inc. (maker of PowerPro fishing line) joins Team Shimano

2012  40 years commemoration Shimano Europe
